Treatment steps

Experience relaxed, calm and comfortable dental treatment!

What is dental sedation?

Dental sedation is a pleasant and relaxing way to overcome your nerves and anxiety.

We use medicine in a vein in the back of your hand or in the crease of your elbow which can help you fully relax for your treatment. It works by helping you enter a state of deep relaxation so you can sit comfortably without any worries whatsoever. It is not a general anaesthetic where you go to sleep.

Whilst you’re sedated you will still be conscious and will be able to talk to the dentist and nurses and they can chat back with you when needed. The majority of patients experience some amnesia and don’t remember much about the treatment at all!

If you are interested in taking that first step to visit a dentist after a long time or you wish to chat about sedation for treatment that you may be worried about, please call us on 01274 900 575 and we will happily book you in for a relaxed consultation.

Our reviews

Was an amazing experience since the first appointment where I had my dental plan put in place. Was super understanding with my situation and what work I wanted to have done. All the staff I had met during my 3 appointments were very nice and provided a great service overall.

Great practice and would highly recommend!! I had been going to another dentist for a while but didn’t seem to explain anything or help me with options. Decided to come to Eccleshill Dental. Was amazed. I had a 40 min examination and then went through all my issues. They broke it down to things that I ‘needed’ to do and then discussed things that might ...

I would like say a massive thank you to Karan at Eccleshill Dental for giving me the confidence to smile again. The dental work I had done was not a straight forward procedure. My teeth needed bleaching and then a new front crown needed to be made to match their new colour. After the course of Enlighten treatment my teeth were temporarily left patchy in ...

FAQs

How do I know if I need sedation?

If you feel too anxious or worried to visit our dental practice for treatment, you may benefit from sedation to help you feel more relaxed. If you are unsure if sedation is for you, please talk to us. We are very happy to talk you through all the options and help you access dental treatment.

Will I be awake during treatment?

With sedation, you are conscious throughout treatment, but in a calm state of relaxation. You will still be able to talk to your dentist, and they are able to talk to you as much or little as you prefer. You are likely to not be able to remember much about the treatment at all once it is complete.

What does sedation involve?

We administer medicine into a vein in the back of your hand or crease of your elbow. It takes effect in a short amount of time, helping you enter a state of deep relaxation so you can sit through your dental treatment without worry. Sedation isn’t a general anaesthetic, meaning you are conscious throughout.

Can I drive home after having sedation?

Sedation can make you feel drowsy and cause your mind to become dream-like, so it is unsafe to drive after treatment. The best thing to do is to ask a friend or family member to accompany you to the practice and help you get home afterwards.

Is sedation expensive?

The cost of sedation varies from case to case, so it is best to talk to us about the overall cost of your treatment with sedation included. We will be able to give you a more detailed estimate and final cost during your initial consultation and examination appointments.
