What is composite bonding?

Composite bonding is a very effective and natural-looking way to repair damaged teeth and improve their overall appearance. We can also design your new teeth, changing the colour, shape and shade of one tooth, or multiple teeth to achieve your ideal smile. Composite material is highly aesthetic, and is bonded straight to your natural tooth. It is built up in layers, with no damage to the healthy tooth or enamel needing to be removed.

As there is no need to prepare the tooth before the treatment, we can repair a chipped tooth or fill small gaps in just one comfortable and relaxing appointment. Our dentists are highly skilled at using composite material to create an improved yet natural looking appearance.

What does the treatment involve?

We start by cleaning the tooth and drying the site where the composite will be placed. Using a special gel, we prepare the tooth surface for the composite bonding material to adhere to.

We match the composite material to the natural shade of your tooth, or your desired new shade, and apply it in layers, gradually building up the correct shape. It is then cured under a UV light.

We polish the composite bonding material, leaving it looking glossy and smooth. We provide you with some advice on how to care for your tooth and leave you to show off your new smile!

Our reviews

Feeling glad! Read our glowing reviews from our valued patients, sharing their experiences and sparkling smiles with us.

Was an amazing experience since the first appointment where I had my dental plan put in place. Was super understanding with my situation and what work I wanted to have done. All the staff I had met during my 3 appointments were very nice and provided a great service overall.

FAQs

Is composite bonding painful?

No, not at all. None of your natural tooth is removed to make way for the composite, and the bonding procedure is pain-free and completely comfortable.

Is the bonding process reversible?

Yes. If you decide you no longer want the composite material on your teeth, we can remove it safely and leave your teeth as they were before. As no tooth is removed to accommodate the composite, it doesn’t affect your natural tooth.

How long does it last for and does it chip or discolour?

The length of time that composite bonding lasts for varies from person to person. There are several factors that affect chipping and staining including the position/type of bonding, the patient’s biting forces along with dietary and smoking habits. Typically, bonding lasts between 2-10 years. Don’t worry though, our dentists will discuss this with you in detail before undertaking any treatment.

Can composite bonding be repaired or replaced?

Yes, it is easy to repair or replace the composite bonding should it be needed. Again, this can be done in one appointment by safely removing the old bonding and replacing/repairing with new material.

Can I eat normally after my appointment?

The composite is set and hardened during your appointment, so you can eat on it straight away. However, it is best to avoid very hard foods or chew on the opposite side of your mouth for the first couple of days, to give it time to settle.
